Sunday, September 28th, 2014 marked the 2nd annual FED UP! Rally in Washington, DC, followed by a group march to the White House. CASAColumbia proudly sent four of our staff members to the rally to participate in this call to action to help spread the word about the opioid (narcotic painkillers and heroin) epidemic in our country. 

A recent study published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence highlighted a huge problem with alcohol industry advertisements. While 9 out of 10 of the alcohol advertisements studied include the message “drink responsibly,” none provide information about what is defined as responsible drinking. 

Despite the widespread implementation of alcohol prevention and education programs on college campuses, many colleges and universities, especially those where sports reign supreme, are legitimizing the notion that alcohol is a necessary feature of any sporting event and lending their name and logo to alcohol-related products.

A new study will follow 10,000 U.S. adolescents, from the time they are 10 until they are 20 years old, to evaluate the effects marijuana and other drug use will have on them. The study, funded by The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), will use brain imaging technology to examine the changes that occur in adolescents’ brains over this time period.
