A message from Dr. Samuel Ball
Today marks the end of my second week as President and Chief Executive Officer of CASAColumbia. Having now met individually with each employee I can honestly say that I am very excited to be working with such an incredible group of people.
Although the core mission and values of CASAColumbia remain unchanged, there are always new projects starting and finishing. Our most recent and visible changes are reflected in our amazing new website. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to spend some time looking through the rich information and resources our organization offers.
Other exciting CASAColumbia initiatives being launched this year include:
- Broadening the scope of our work to include focus on other addictive or compulsive behaviors such as gambling, eating, sex and Internet use
- Expanding our existing collaborations with the Columbia University addiction researchers and developing new collaborations with Yale University addiction researchers
- Further integrating and increasing our treatment research with North Shore-LIJ Health System primary and emergency care programs and our health services research with New York State departments and offices
I am deeply honored to begin leading this unique organization, founded and led for more than 20 years by Joseph A. Califano, Jr. Joe’s embodiment of mission, purpose and passion is incomparable. I look forward to working with him and Jeffrey B. Lane, who has done a wonderful job chairing the CASAColumbia Board of Directors for the past 2 years.
Starting this week, I will begin meeting with our extraordinary Board members who have been so generous in their support of CASAColumbia. At the same time, I will also begin meeting with leaders of various academic and community-based organizations who share CASAColumbia’s long-standing commitment to ending addiction, our nation’s number one public health problem.
