The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse is engaged in several projects designed for physicians. Projects underway include:
Although addiction is more prevalent than heart conditions, diabetes and cancer, physicians are offered little content in addiction and risky substance use in medical school, residency or continuing medical education. The Center is developing core curricular materials for health care providers starting with undergraduate medical education and will work with medical schools and educators to help design these materials and integrate them into routine medical education.
The Center will then expand its work to address curricula, including continuing education, for other health care providers.
